Interview: 10 questions
1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
I am a media artist who works in computer visualization and installation, exploring perceptual blindness in physical experience and god-like awareness in digital space. With over 17 years in interactive media, Im have created innovative advertising and communications for some prominent international brands. I completed his MFA at Hunter College, NYC in Integrated Media Arts, and took my MA at the University of Stony Brook, NY, in Art History, Theory and Criticism. I am Assistant Professor of Interactive Media/Game Studies at Marist College.
2. When, how and why started you filming?
I create visualizations, glimpses into how information/data is framed to state a proposition. I have been doing this professionally for some time now, but in the last three years in a more personal and vigorous way.
3.What kind of subjects have your films?
They are about the effects of losing one’s senses, both literally and figuratively.
4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
There is a kind of workflow that I inherited from industry, simple problem/solution processes, but they have been corrupted to open up the expressive qualities of visualizing information.
5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
I am software-based, using different 3D and game engines to create and capture my work.
6. What are the chances of new media for the genre film/video in general
and you personally? I’m all over it and about it.
7. How do you finance your films?
I teach full time to pay the rent, slave labor on the weekends.
8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team?
if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer? Individually now, but I see a future of working in teams as I expand on the breadth of themes.
9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
My sixth-grade teacher, who taught me about the difference between content effect and meaning. And Otomo Yoshihide, the composer, who stated, “The moment one recognizes a certain sound in terms of meaning, one stops hearing the sound as sound.â€
10. What are your future plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
To embody simulation, to be seen and to not.
