Interview:10 questions

1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background.
I grew up in Mexico City. My background is photography and graphic design.

2. When, how and why started you filming?
I was doing photography, but my projects started to have movement and sound, so I turned to video.


3. What kind of subjects have your films?

Lonely and longing for the most part.

4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
I use digital video. I started with mini DV tapes, and now I am using HD video.

5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
I am currently working with HD video and editing with Final Cut Pro.

6. The field of “art and moving images” (one may call it videoart or also differently) is is manifesting itself as an important position in contemporary art. Tell me more about your personal position and how you see the future of this field (your personal future and the future of “art and moving images”)

I think video, as many other form of contemporary art is going to keep expanding into different directions, and merging with other mediums. I think the lines that divide mediums and genres are going to get blurrier.
Personally, I am interested in working on more collaborative projects. I am also very intereted in working with sound.

7. How do you finance your films?
I have a day job to finance my self and my work.

8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team?
if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
It depends on the project, sometimes I do everything myself, and sometimes I have collaborators, and aides. Both ways have pros and cons, and it’s really up to the project.

9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
My early influences are Pipilotti Rist, Marina Abramovic, and Mona Hatoum.

10. What are your plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
To be able to keep doing it for a long long time.
