    Interview: 10 questions

    1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
    I was born in Tokyo, Japan. I studied installations, site specific
    works, art projects to relate with local community in University and
    joined some art projects in Japan and other country. Basically my
    works always connect to site directly. At that time the works I made
    were site specific installations. But I’m getting interested in seeing
    some community and land in quite long term.

    2. When, how and why started you filming?
    After trip for joining in art project, there are many pictures and video in my hands.
    Then I started to edit these materials. I’d like to describe to something getting change in encounters with power of unknown culture.

    3. What kind of subjects have your films?
    Mental moving to encounter with cultures, history and environment.

    4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
    For me, it is most important impression from scenery. My works are mostly taken during trip. At first I take many scenes casually, then I construct a story and concept deeply.

    5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
    Camera (film and digital), DV video camera, and computer. Photo films were scanned and mixed with digital movie and photos.

    6. What are the chances of new media for the genre film/video in general and you personally?
    More things in the world can be parallel.

    7. How do you finance your films?
    I fund my projects myself.

    8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team? if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
    I work individually as an artist.

    9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
    I learned power of story from many novels.

    10. What are your future plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
    I’d like to take a documental video focusing people’s daily act on the road.
