Interview: 10 questions

1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
I was born in Zadar, Croatia, where I finished the English and French language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy and later moved to Split where I have just finished Film and video studies at the Arts Academy University of Split. I have worked as a teaching assistant, tourist guide, translator/interpreter etc.

2. When, how and why started you filming?
I have always loved to watch films. As a kid, I gave my parents hard time because I wanted to see every film shown on TV no matter how late it was on. Later I wanted to make my own films. I didn’t… Still later I entered the Arts Academy of Split and so I started making films, animation and videos.

3.What kind of subjects have your films?
I don’t think of my films in terms of subjects. Everything can be a film subject.

4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
I don’t think I have a particular style. It is different with every film and I always try to push my own boundaries.

5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
I do not have much technical equipment. Most of my films were made by the equipment we had at the Arts Academy or Kino Klub Split. I also use my photo camera Olympus C770UZ. It was my great little helper in many occasions.

6. What are the chances of new media for the genre film/video in general and you personally?
New media is the media art form of today. It is constantly developing and it’s difficult to see its boundaries from where we are today.

7. How do you finance your films?
So far I have financed my films myself. They didn’t cost much so I could afford it.

8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team? if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
I have worked alone and I have worked in a team. Both ways have advantages and disadvantages. I love working in a team because it’s more fun and because more people can bring more creative power which can result in great things. On the other hand people can sometimes pull each their own way and things can get hectic. That’s why I also love working alone because I can choose my own pace and experiment as much and how much I want. On the other hand, when working alone I can get cornered by my own work and frustrated with myself.

9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
So many films, so many artists…

10. What are your future plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
Presently I have a short film in post-production and hope to make the best of it. I would like to continue making short films, videos, and animation films. I hope to have more time in my life to do that.
