Interview: 10 questions

Interview:10 questions

1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
I am a multi-disciplinary artist. My performance work is a fusion of theatre, dance, live cinema, video projection and live music. I studied computer science and did an MA in Performing Design and Practice. Have been dancing and acting pretty much my whole life.

2. When, how and why started you filming?
Initially I worked as a performer and editor and therefore decided to combine those two.

3. What kind of subjects have your films?
I like to experiment with everything, try out new combinations and play with stereotypes. I like to create culturally transgressive and challenging new work, either it’s in film, live performance or installation.

4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
I follow my instinct while I try to put together a puzzle of thoughts and images constantly popping in my head.

5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
Never used film although I would love to. Cameras I use vary from canon to simple minidv. I particularly enjoy using my mobile’s cam though. If I have to I will use my laptop for editing.

6. The field of “art and moving images” (one may call it videoart or also differently) is is manifesting itself as an important position in contemporary art. Tell me more about your personal position and how you see the future of this field ( your personal future and the future of “art and moving images”)
Editing software nowadays has equipped many people with the potential to produce really highly artistic work in the field of video art. This is really good for the actual field but not that good for the people involved in the field. It is difficult to get your work across when there is so much equally amazing out there.

7. How do you finance your films?
Depending on the budget available and required. I like low/no budget film making, in which I am more likely to show who I am and what I do. When money and producers come in it is very easy to lose the game.

8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team?
If you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
Individually mostly but I always enjoy when I have other people on board with me.

9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
Anything I find stimulating, usually many things completely incompatible with each other, put all together in one piece.

10. What are your plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
It is very difficult to decide as my future dreams change all the time. The more I learn the more I change my ideas on film making and working as an artist.

Can works of yours viewed online besides on CologneOFF or VideoChannel? Where?
