Interview: 10 questions
1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
I studied at an art school in Taiwan.
I learned basic painting in the previous 2 years, and then learn about digital art in the third year.
From making 2D animation to 3D animation, I learned many things in the 3 years.
Recently, I’m trying to combine some medias together to create new works.
2. When, how and why started you filming?
I had inspiration for “Plastic Flowers” in summer of 2013, and then I started to film it.
I used digital camera and High Speed camera to film it, and tried to mix 2D with 3D.
3. What kinds of topics have your films?
I like to film something which is related with my life experiences and people around me.
4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
I like to make sure the exact direction and then create more and develop it.
Although I can not be other one, but I can imagine their life and try to think what the feelings might be.
I don’t follow one rule to create stories.
5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
I don’t use too many technical equipment to do it.
Basically, I like to have some ideas and thought first, and draw it by my hands on papers.
Using software to make the drawings become to motion graphic, and then combine with the real shooting.
So that you can feel it is a real story but not a fiction or fantasy story.
I use a (5D III)camera, and highly efficient computers.
6. These days digital technology is dominating also video as a medium. In which way the digital aspect is entering the creation of your videos, technologically and/or conceptually?
Technology is not the most important thing to me. For me, skills and technology could be a general thing in the future.
The most important thing is having good ideas, conception, and the graphic style, which can be keep forever.
People will remember good ideas and be touched by it, so I think the idea and style is more important than it.
7. How do you finance your films?
My salary.
I do some commercial projects and also the movie project. After I get money from it, I have enough money to do my own creation and works.
8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team?
if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
I prefer to work alone, but I need a team to complete the whole film.
People live in the same society, we work for ourselves and we also work for others.
Just like we need food and clothes, and some people do these for us, it means that everyone is important for everyone.
We need others as same as others need us.
I would be a cool guy if I do the film alone without others help, but what I really want is a team which stronger than me and we can share the honor together.
9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
Diego RodrÃguez de Silva y Velázquez and Salvador DalÃ.
I really like surrealism.
I want to create more works from my deep thoughts as well as them.
10. What are your future plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
I have a dream to make my art works travel to the world, and I am planning to show my enthusiasm to the world.
