Interview: 10 questions
1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
I stated studying Art and Architecture in Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. After three years I transfer to finish Architectural Design at Parsons School of Design in New York. After working on the field for some time, I decided to take of and travel, I traveled for almost two years and started experimenting with photography …those years where the best School someone could have. I then was interested in interactive art and so I joined ITP and currently I am finishing my Masters in Professional Studies at NYU.
2. When, how and why started you filming?
With a simple canon camcorder, I don’t remember even what model was it…It broke.
3.What kind of subjects have your films?.
Nothing too interesting so far…jeee…I like to work with the human body, its esthetic and movements…I have to shoot more.
4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
I work mainly in after effects I shoot with a green screen and I put my footage together and make my compositions in After Effect and Final Cut. Every project changes…I am experimenting how to feel more comfortable.
5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
Whatever I can get a hold on… green screen, basic lighting reflection umbrellas and whatever camera that I can get…
6. What are the chances of new media for the genre
film/video in general and you personally?
Everything I do in relation to my work is new media, It affects how I can manipulate my editing and most important how do I approach the experimentation of my concept before I decide on a esthetic and a process. Also the interaction if I want one with the audience, what sensors…if sensors, color tracking, movement tracking…everything.
7. How do you finance your films?
No budjet..low budjet..myself
8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team?
if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
I Usually work by my self , but once I have something in progress to show I look for feedback and any kind of collaboration until is finish… well nothing ever is finish… for me… until I am brain dead.
9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
Uff, many ..from contemporary artists like Viola to back to .Luis Bunuel in the 1930…
10. What are your future plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
To enjoy it.
