    Interview:10 questions

    1. Tell me something about your life and the educational background
I was born in Columbia and when I was six years old I moved with my mother and sister to a Kibbutz in Israel. My mother was a European refugee. She spoke many broken languages and so I have no Mother’s Tongue except for Visual Lingua. I have a degree in construction engineering and I graduated from the Art Teacher’s college in Ramat Hasharon. I currently teach painting at the Tel-Aviv Museum Workshops.

    2. When, how and why started you filming?
I made my first movie “Blue Blue” in 1980 when I was very influenced by Dadaistic ideas. It was a video installation where two TV sets “come to life” and engage in a “relationship”, mixing sex and violence to the sound of heavy breathing.

    3. What kind of subjects have your films?
My films often deal with questions of identity, persecution, language, memories, home and homelessness.

    4. How do you develop your films, do you follow certain principles, styles etc?
I take what comes. Certain materials invade my consciousness and mix together to form an idea.

    5. Tell me something about the technical equipment you use.
    Simple digital video.

    6. What are the chances of new media for the genre film/video in general and you personally?
    I have no idea.

    7. How do you finance your films?
I sometimes receive funding from public funds.

    8. Do you work individually as a video artist/film maker or do you work in a team? if you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
Individually but I often get useful help from colleagues as well as students of mine.

    9. Who or what has a lasting influence on your film/video making?
Alejandro Jodorowsky, Jean-Luc Godard, “Persona” by Ingmar Bergman, John Cassavetes, Stanley Kubrik.

    10. What are your future plans or dreams as a film/video maker?
Like Pygmalion I wish to carve the perfect Galatea and bring her back to life.

Can works of yours viewed online besides on VideoChannel? Where?
